What is Prezi?

Prezi is a web-based tool for creating presentations (called prezis for short). It's similar to other presentation software like Microsoft PowerPoint, but it offers some unique features that make it a good alternative. In recent years, it has become popular in schools and businesses. If you're looking to create a presentation that's a bit more eye-catching and engaging, Prezi may be for you.

How does a prezi work?

Most types of presentation software use a slide-based approach, where you move back and forth between individual slides, kind of like pages in a book. Prezi, however, uses a canvas-based approach. Instead of using slides, Prezi has one very large canvas that your presentation moves around on, zooming in and out to view various frames.

Why use Prezi?

You might be wondering what makes Prezi different from other presentation software, like PowerPoint or Keynote. For one thing, Prezi is completely free to use. There are upgrades you can pay for to unlock additional features, but everything you need to create and share a dynamic prezi is available free of cost.

Another great reason to use Prezi is that it is run entirely through your web browser, meaning there will be fewer compatibility issues than with other programs like PowerPoint. Your prezi will always look the same, no matter what computer you're viewing it on.

Because of its unique presentation style, Prezi can use movement to help communicate a point you're trying to make. If you want your audience to really feel a sense of space and distance between locations, you could use a map template, like in the prezi below.

My Personal Experience of Using Prezi

I have been using Prezi so many times to teach my students. I noticed there are so many advantages while I am using Prezi. First, honestly, because it is free. Tell me, is there anyone on this planet hates freebies? Yes,absolutely, no one. There is no need for me to spend a single penny to use Prezi. I can make a full presentation with a free account unless you need  a full access on templates, layouts, functionalities and what not, you can get a premium account.

Other than that, my students look so interested when I present my teaching using this kind of presentation compared when I am using traditional way or using a presentation software like Microsoft Powerpoint. Some of them never been exposed to the uses of Prezi. They look so amaze and attracted to how unique my presentation could be. They ve all those tweaks and movements compared to a dull slideshows when I am using Microsoft Powerpoint. Sorry, Microsoft!

Besides that, I love using Prezi because it is compatible with all types of computers or operating system. How? Because I do not need to install any software into my laptop. I just need to search the web and voila, I can view my presentation with ease.

Last but not least, Prezi is so simple and easy to use. I have exposed Prezi to my student during our class session. And I ask them to try using Prezi to present the assignment I ask them to do. And guess what, they can master Prezi and make their own unique presentation in less than one hour. Here is the video I record in our class session : 

They are so excited to present their Prezi presentation. They want to share with their friend how interesting their presentation. They are so creative to explore the functionalities in Prezi. The transition, the image they been using, zooming in and out, they are enjoying Prezi very much.

GENIALLY

What is Genially?

Like Prezi, Genially is a web-based tool, also available in a free version, that allows you to create animated infographics, interactive presentations and even escape games. Use this tool to present content to your students in a fun way. Or offer it to your students as a visual aid during their oral presentations. Genially offers a host of possibilities!

Genially presentations are integrated directly into this page of the Profweb site, but a Genially presentation can also be viewed in full screen mode directly from the Genial.ly site and it can be shared on social networks. Can it be downloaded? Yes, absolutely. A Genially presentation can also be downloaded for offline viewing.

For your information, if you view the presentation online, the presentation can take the shape of a standard slide show (click on the side of a page to change the page or a microsite (scroll up and down; the pages are linked one under the other)

How Does Genially Work?

The use of Genially is simple and intuitive. The interface is available in English and other languages, including French and Spanish.

You must first create an account or log in with Google, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. You can use Genially for free or pay for access to additional features (additional templates, exclusive images and icons, etc.). Personally, I tested only the free version: it perfectly met my needs.So, there is no need for a paid version unless you need those extra features.

The easiest way is to start by selecting a template. A large number of professional-looking templates are available.

A template can easily be customized (you can change colors, fonts, backgrounds, etc.). Of course, you can also start from scratch. You also can animate each element of a page, with a lot of freedom. Any element of a page can be made interactive.

My Personal Experience of Using Genially

With Genially, I can create static or animated infographics. I can also choose to make them interactive or not. Genially gives a great contribution to ne. These infographics offer a multitude of educational uses. I can use Genially to present content to their students. As an example, in class, during a lecture, Genially becomes my visual support (it replaces the usual dull PowerPoint slide show). In a flipped classroom, students view a Genially presentation at home to acquire notions. (Genially presentations can include YouTube or Vimeo videos, hyperlinks, etc.)

Other than that, I can get my students to use Genially to present content. After using Genially for a quiet some time, I think that Genially not only helps me to teach my student, but also can helps my student to present their assignment. So, I exposed about Genially to my student and guess what, their are really interested about that. They submit a Genially presentation to replace or supplement a written report after a research assignment. They can also use Genially as a support during an oral presentation in class and  share a Genially presentation with their peers instead of an oral presentation.
